................................................................................“JASMINE ... I SAW YOU CREEPING”................................................................................
Lazy rainy UK bank holiday with nothing to do and just noticed that I hadn’t finished scanning the contents of all my Bowie concert programmes so thought it an ideal time to climb back up into the Freecloud attic and dig some of them out to post here. In my search I came across one of my 1978 Isolar tour programmes which I thought also gave me an opportunity to ‘vent’ what has always been one of my bugbears in all my years of being a Bowie fan , the lyrics to ‘Always Crashing In The Same Car’ .
Don’t care if I’m in a minority of one, irrespective of what Internet lyric sites/ Bowie fan sites/ Bowie Facebook sites say , don’t care that folx say “but during the 1997 Earthling Tour Bowie sang ‘Peeping’ whilst singing ‘Always Crashing In The Same Car’ and I seen it on Youtube and it’s his song so it must true", to me it’ll always be “Creeping” .
Random ‘vent’ thoughts....
1. In 1974 Bowie recorded and released the album Diamond Dogs and in the same year embarked on the ‘Diamond Dogs tour’ but before embarking on the tour Bowie had to get someone to phone up the school kid president of the David Bowie Fan club to dictate all the lyrics of his songs from said album which he had just written and recorded, over the phone as he wasn't sure of them all.
2. Low - recorded late 1976 and released January 1977.
3. March / December 1978 Bowie toured the Isolar II tour and the official tour programme contained for the first time as far I’m aware all the lyrics from the Low album. 5 songs including 'Always Crashing In The Same Car' which only contains 10 short lines all copyrighted - 1977 Bewlay Bros Music & Fleur Music Ltd at the time.
4. Would think that if Bowie felt it important enough to include the lyrics to Low in his 1978 tour programme (after not including them with the actual album)he would be more likely to make sure the correct ones were printed (moreso when he'd only just recorded them a year previous)
5. 1997- Bowie renown for fluffing lines performs 'Always Crashing In The Same Car' for the first time 20+ years after writing the song and sings “Peeping” which makes no sense at all.
6. Song Interpretation #1. “Jasmine ... I Saw You Creeping” ... Jasmine is the car. (Like how many folx have a name for their car? 'Rupert The Riley'anyone?), “ I Saw You Creeping” is the speedometer in the car creeping higher as “I put my foot down to the floor” .
7. Song Interpretation #2. “Jasmine ... I Saw You Peeping” Wtf? Jasmine is outside the car somewhere lurking in a multi story car park ‘peeping’ (wtf why?) at Bowie whilst he’s driving round “a hotel garage ... touching close to 94” in a drug fuelled haze and he can actually see her "peeping" from somewhere ? WTF? Makes no sense at all.
8. Maybe I’m still in a minority of one or maybe one's ears hear what they want to hear but to me it’ll always be “Jasmine, I Saw You Creeping “
9. Rant over .

Whilst searching the Freecloud attic for programmes came across my Elephant Man Playbills for both the Blackstone Theatre & Boothe Theatre. I always thought that I only had one Boothe Theatre playbill and that was all I needed as there was only one version but discovered today that I have two and that they are different versions, one is 114 pages long and the other is 98 pages long. Though the content is different because it’s all ads etc etc the Bowie content is the same (see memorabilia section page 2) or so I thought. The 114 page version also contains this page pictured below which the 98 page doesn’t.
Apologies if this has one now looking for the playbill they thought that they had.....

On the final night of the European leg of Tin Machine's 'It's My Life' tour at London's Brixton Academy on 11.11.91. Bowie came out (with minders) to reward the small number of fans who had attended all the UK gigs, with Bowie and his minder throwing a very small amount of specially printed T shirts to the said fans still remaining.
A couple of pix from said eve and the ultra limited T shirt (thrown by Bowie).
