. From The Bucks Herald newspaper dated 23.09.71.
An advert for David Bowie's early show at the Friars Club in Aylesbury Market Square.
" David chose the famous Aylesbury venue to debut the not yet released Hunky Dory album on the night of 25th September 1971. The event was also the first time Bowie performed live with Mick Ronson, Woody Woodmansey and Trevor Bolder backing the iconic frontman.
This was a pre-Ziggy Stardust show.
Only weeks before, Bowie had his first meeting (September 10th 1971) with Andy Warhol at the Factory in New York.
After the success of this gig, Bowie and his new band would start rehearsals at the Underhill Studios in south London, where the band would soon be named the Spiders, and Ziggy was born.
It is no surprise that Bowie returned to Aylesbury's Friars Club early the following year for the debut show of his Ziggy Stardust persona.
In fact, the opening line of his Ziggy Stardust album: "Pushing through the market square" is a reference to Aylesbury. "
