Knew that Bowie was rumoured to be in the studio and in the mix of The Rolling Stones' 'It's Only Rock'N'Roll (But I Like It)'.... but forgot that he also 'gave them a nod' during his Diamond Dogs tour.

In fact, Jack, he included the Stones chorus as early as 28 October 1974 in New York, and in all the subsequent shows I have: 14-11 &15-11 Boston, 24-11 & 25-11 Philly, 26-11 Uniondale, 1-12 Atlanta. But I bet you knew that, and much more besides ;-))

To be honest H ...
I was only talking from a point of view of which Bowie "74 tour recordings that I had near to hand ... (ie on CD, being 28 of which 9 are October to December and none of these incorporate The Rolling Stones' 'I Know It's Only Rock'N'Roll')
As most of my Bowie "74 tour recordings are (like most folx?)on DAT tapes in a box in a cupboard waiting to be converted to digital and the track listing on them only titles the song as Diamond Dogs, how many actually incorporate The Rolling Stones 'I Know It's Only Rock'N'Roll' I haven't the foggiest ...
Never take anything that I say as fact, but fiction ... (until corroborated by a third party )
And had a wee listen to my CDs from Radio City & Atlanta and must digress that you are wrong concerning Bowie incorporating this Stones song into the chorus of Diamond Dogs.
As always I'm happy to be proved wrong as that is how I learn stuff.

Excusez-moi, you're right about Atlanta, but on my copy of Infected he sings it unmistakably... It's got Funky Music on it too, so it must be Infected. By the way, why don't we still know whether Bowie was involved in the Stones recording, 40 years after? Has nobody ever asked them?

Apologies H!
You are of course correct that Bowie incorporated The Stones 'It's Only Rock'N'Roll' into Diamond Dogs at Radio City Music Hall N.Y.C. on October 28th 1974 as can be clearly heard on the 'Infected With Soul Love' bootleg. (I skipped through the track twice on my PC to check,as I was busy listening to "74 Bowie on my audio system and missed it twice
See? ...I learned something new today. And you're probably correct about Bowie utilising it into Diamond Dogs at the other gigs you mentioned.
As for it being speculative wether Bowie was actually involved in The Rolling Stones studio sessions for the recording of 'It's Only Rock'N'Roll (But I Like It)' guess that's all down to egos/Bowie & Jagger indulging in creating smoke screens and music myths/conspiracies to promote themselves...
And Jagger being a bit peeved at Bowie for stealing his idea of using Guy Peellaert to illustrate The Stones' forthcoming album cover 'It's Only Rock'N'Roll' with a more superior and startling imaginative image for his own forthcoming album 'Diamond Dogs' which was pre-emptive of theirs .. Miaowww...
Or is that "Bow Wow, Woof Woof"? )
This must be the silliest promo video ever?

I read on cd notes i think it was one of their many greatest hits comp,s Kieth Richards said bowie played acoustic on the demo that was recorded in Mick jaggers place in richmond, he went on to say bowies playing could be heard on the actual record . he also added that Bowie was actually a very good guitar player and was amazed at all these riffs he just came out with.within just a few mins. was it in this period that Mick jagger said never show Bowie a new pair of shoes as he will nick them ? Hi N!
I'm thinking that you are correct as I'm sure I read similar on CD liner notes or in a book or somewhere.
And I'm sure the little Mick Jagger quote "Never show Bowie a new pair of shoes as he will nick them" came from this period for he was still miffed at Bowie for usurping The Stones with his Guy Peellaert 'Diamond Dogs' album cover.
Bowie to Mick Jagger ...
"Mick, It's Only Rock'N'Roll !"
